Current Projects

Past Projects

  • Multimedia Analysis and Retrieval System Project (MARS) whose goal is to design and develop an integrated multimedia information retrieval and database management system that provides native support for multimedia information in database management systems. The project focusses on feature extraction, representation, information retrieval, query refinement, feature indexing, efficient query processing, and data model extensions to support similarity queries within databases.
  • Spatio-temporal Uncertainty Reasoning System (SATURN) whose goal is to develop techniques for managing highly dynamic spatio-temporal datasets to facilitate visualization, spatio-temporal reasoning and analysis tasks. The project focusses on representation of spatio-temporal objects, indexing techniques, support for dynamic changes, and support for uncertainty queries within spatio-temporal databases.
  • Aviation Weather Awareness and Reporting Enhancements (AWARE) whose goal is to develop a spatio-temporal database to support pilot advisory and weather event notification for general aviation pilots.
  • Replication in Distributed and Parallel Databases . We are also conducting research on distributed database management systems with a special interest in fault-tolerance and replication techniques.

The database research group works closely with a large number of national collaborators in academia, in government and in the commercial computing arena. We are seeking new graduate students to participate in these exciting projects.
